Obituary

Albert sidney lively, 89 died saturday, february 4, 2017 at the hubbard hospice house in south charleston, west virginia.

He leaves his beloved wife of 57 years, frances; his daughter, sheila, his two sons stanley and keith; four grandchildren james, rachelle, andrea and christopher; and many more friends and loved ones who mourn his loss.

Albert was born to sidney and maxwell lively on august 29, 1927 in welch, wv.  he had a sister elizabeth, and two brothers ernest and george, of whom only ernest now survives.  the family moved to a farm in creamery, wv where albert spent the remainder of his youth.

A staunch proponent of education, albert graduated from greenville high school, concord college (1949) and appalachian state teachers college (1958) in boone, nc.  he went on to teach in several schools in southern west virginia, including a one-room school in monroe county, union high school, greenbrier west high school and greenbrier elementary in hinton, wv.

It was while at appalachian state that albert met his wife, frances (nee smith), who was also earning her degree.  they married in atlanta, ga on june 20, 1959 and moved to monroe county, wv to start their careers as teachers and to start a family.  they raised their children in union, lewisburg, and finally hinton, wv.  in 1995, after the children were grown, they moved to a smaller home in dunbar, wv to live out their retirement.

Albert was an accomplished musician, and a lifelong lover of music.  he served as band director at union high school and was the choir director at central baptist church in hinton for over twenty years.  he taught piano and organ to a generation of students, including his own children.

While in hinton, albert served as the secretary for the local kiwanis club for over ten years, earning several awards and recognitions for his service.

Albert was a devoted, lifelong christian.  he was raised attending flint chapel baptist church in creamery, and was later a member of shuck memorial baptist church in lewisburg, central baptist church in hinton, and baptist temple in charleston.  while living in union, albert and his wife were charter members of union memorial baptist church.

A memorial service lead by, open to any and all who wish to celebrate albert’s life, will be held at the baptist temple in charleston, wv on february 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.M. With senior pastor dr. Jim hewitt officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that those wishing to will donate to the baptist temple in charleston, the hubbard hospice house in south charleston, or to their favorite charity in albert’s name.
