Obituary

Alice Anne Anderson Robertson of Charleston, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on July 21, 2024. She was born in Oil City, Pennsylvania on November 26, 1932.

Alice Anne graduated from Oil City High School, Morris Harvey College and the WVU Graduate School with master’s degrees in Elementary Classroom Teachings and Educational Administration. The same week she graduated from Morris Harvey College, she became the music teacher at Horace Mann Junior Hight School and her life of teaching began. After taking a break to raise her three children, Alice Anne went back to the classroom at Kanawha City Elementary, Midway Elementary and eventually became principal at Valley Grove Elementary School.

When she retired from the school system, Alice Anne became Music Director at St. Marks United Methodist Church, her home church of over 60 years. Alice Anne was also very involved in her community, volunteering as a Girl Scout Leader when her children were young and later in life participating as a member and office holder in organizations such as the Optimist Club of Charleston, Community Music Association, Symphony Chorus, Good Night Coordinator, United Methodist Women, Lay Delegate to the WV Annual Conference, attendee and sponsor in the Walk to Emmaus, and many other worthwhile volunteer opportunities.

Alice Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Grover Anderson and Alice Margaret Goodemote Anderson, and brother, Charles Robert Anderson.

She is survived by her three children, Anne Plott (Butch Plott), James A. Robertson, Susan Silverman (David Tackett); grandchildren, Emily Plott Rusniak (Alan Rusniak), Amy Robertson Jarvis (Brian Jarvis), Nick Robertson (Emily Robertson), Hannah and Rachel Silverman (Will Dobbins), and nine great-grandchildren.

The family would also like to recognize and thank the loving caregivers who allowed her to remain at home until her ascent to heaven, Rasha, Diana, Mary and Robyn. We are so grateful for them. In her own words, Alice Anne felt that she was “blessed abundantly.” Her family and countless friends filled her with love and joy. She was a beautiful spirit, a bright light who taught, mentored, loved and accepted everyone she knew, and she will be deeply missed.

A celebration of Alice Anne’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 900 Washington Street East, Charleston, WV 25301.
