Obituary
Amelia (amy) yerrid, 98, passed away in a peaceful sleep at home. she was an independent first-generation american woman. amy loved life and said daily, “i never want to leave this world!” she was devoted to her church, compassionate and generous to others. amy helped raise and care for her siblings and many other family members. she was our second mother. she was a constant source of strength fortified by catchy mottos and a witty sense of humor. she was feisty. she loved raphael’s angels, babies, santa claus, coca-cola, checking in by late night phone calls, good posture, styled hair and lottery tickets.
Amy was a graduate of charleston high school, a math whiz, and precise on the cash register. she worked tirelessly at jobs where she could be with the public: bashour confectionery, burdell confectionery, the anne lewis dress shop, the arcadia restaurant, woodrum’s furniture, heck’s stores and fazio”s italian restaurant. her math genius served her well – she worked bingo at st. George church for more years than anyone can remember. she was known by many loving names: amy, aunt mia, and her favorite – aunt mimi. she learned to drive at age 50, and proudly drove around town with a personalized tag: “best mimi.” she will be remembered and missed for her endless devotion. the walls in her home are covered with pictures of family members spanning six generations, and she adored each one. may her memory be eternal.
