Obituary

(payne) anastasia “˜stacy’ dickinson payne of charleston, wv, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend joined her lord as a messenger of love on april 20th following nearly a year of courageously managing her way through cancer. Throughout her life, stacy’s greatest love and devotion were to god, her family, her friends, and her summer camp, camp mont shenandoah.
Born in charleston, wv on june 17, 1971, stacy attended holz elementary school and john adams jr. High. She graduated in 1989 from westover school in middlebury, ct and from randolph-macon college in 1993 with a b.A. In studio arts and an elementary education teaching degree. Stacy completed her m.A. In psychology at sonoma state university in rohnert park, ca after studying expressive arts therapy at the tamalpa institute in kentfield, ca.

Stacy warmed the hearts of many while working at camp mont shenandoah. One of her great honors was being recognized with the camp counselor award in 1990. Stacy enjoyed organizing and volunteering for the youth empowerment program, challenge day, especially in kanawha county, where she brought the program to five high schools. She also enjoyed her connection to another youth empowerment program called, the mosaic project. She was proud to help initiate their tagline, “peacing it together.”

stacy was preceded in death by her father; andrew allemong payne, jr.

Stacy is survived by her husband, ethan arthur hurley. Her love for him runs deep and strong. She is also survived by her daughter, grace grover “gigi” payne-hurley, who brought her more joy and wonder than stacy ever thought possible. Other famil include her mother, ann casto (paul) moran; her sister, katharine payne (matt) confer; her brothers, andrew allemong (mary) payne iii and j.K. Thomas (dee) payne; stepsisters courtney moran (kevin) o’neil, and meredith moran (ross) german; and numerous extended family members, nieces, nephews, and great-nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.M. Saturday, april 26, 2014   at the first presbyterian church in charleston located at 16 leon sullivan way.

In lieu of flowers, stacy requested that donations be made to camp mont shenandoah’s the camp spirit scholarship, a fund within community foundation for rockbridge, bath, and allegheny, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, cfrba, po box 20, lexington va 24450
or the  camc foundation to help fund children’s bereavement services at the new cancer center.  camc foundation, 3412 staunton avenue se, charleston wv 25314

  1. I love you Stacy and think of you often. I remember all our talks at Westover with you and Samantha. I miss you and pray you are at peace. I know you’re watching over your daughter and husband. I’ll always remember your kindness and love. I will cherish those memories always.
