Obituary

Ann barry schneider passed away on september 30 in charleston, west virginia, where she was a long term resident. She was born on december 19, 1922 in durham, north carolina to ann dixon barry and john richard barry, and had one younger sister jayne dixon barry haynes, who passed away on april 11, 1997.

Ann graduated from durham high school and then earned her b.A. In history from duke university in 1944.   she married walter schneider in 1944 and they had four children. The family lived in texas city, texas; ravenna, italy; palos verdes, california; and charleston, west virginia. Walt schneider passed away on september 20, 1978.

Ann was active at the first presbyterian church for fifty-four years, participated in the american association of university women, the bedford road garden club, and the league of women voters. She and her husband traveled extensively in europe as well as in the united states. She was very well informed about politics and enjoyed reading and gardening. She is survived by her four children: walter barry (tracy), john richard (barbara), ann lenore, and jane hildegarde schneider; six grandchildren: elizabeth (geoff sahs), carly schneider, anne schneider; stephen, allison, and katy broadwater; and three great grandchildren, (abby, caroline and will sahs).

Funeral service will be held at 11am, saturday, october 14, 2017 at the first presbyterian church chapel, 16 leon sullivan way, charleston with rev. Dr. William g. Mccoy officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7pm friday night, october 13, 2017 at barlow bonsall funeral home, charleston. Burial will take place at a later date in north carolina.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made in memory of ann to the first presbyterian church, the hospice program, or hurricane relief.
