Obituary

Ann Mottesheard Davis, a lifelong resident of Charleston, West Virginia, passed away on June 17, 2025, at the age of 92. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, loyal friend, and vibrant member of her community, Ann lived her life with joy, curiosity, and an adventurous spirit.

Born on March 27, 1933, in Charleston, Ann was the daughter of the late William and Hattie Mottesheard. She was preceded in death by her younger sister, Elizabeth Chakeres of Alexandria, Virginia, and her two cherished feline companions, Julian and Sarah.

Ann graduated from Charleston High School and continued her education at Center College in Charleston, later attending West Virginia State University in Institute. She was a dedicated receptionist at CAMC Memorial Hospital, where she welcomed countless patients, staff, and visitors with her warm smile until her retirement.

Ann was a lifelong member of Morris Memorial United Methodist Church in Kanawha City, where her faith and fellowship enriched the lives of many. She had a deep appreciation for the arts, regularly attending symphonies and Broadway performances with her best friends and from her favorite front-row seat at the Clay Center.

Her love of travel took her on many Royal Caribbean cruises and adventures across the United States and abroad. Whether shopping for handmade treasures at the Ripley Arts and Crafts Fair or pedaling her iconic lavender three-wheeled bicycle through Kanawha City—waving to every passerby—Ann’s zest for life was unmistakable. She was also frequently seen cruising in “Black Beauty,” her beloved 2002 black Ford Thunderbird.

Ann is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Dan Weese; her granddaughter, Taylor, and her great-granddaughter, Briyar, all of Monument, Colorado. Her legacy of kindness, strength, and style lives on through them and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

A memorial service celebrating Ann’s remarkable life will be scheduled later this summer.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Ann’s name to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital: www.stjude.org/donate.

Ann’s vibrant spirit and enduring sense of adventure will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Condolences may be sent to Ann’s family at www.barlowbonsall.com.

  1. We have been neighbors of Miss Ann’s for 16 years now. What a wonderful obituary to share with those of us who did not have the pleasure of knowing her in her younger days. Ann has been quite the independent woman of the neighborhood. She was always caring for the neighborhood cats and birds. We loved that. We also loved watching her ride throughout the neighborhood with her bicycle waving to everyone. Many wishes for her forever good memories to her family and friends.

Prayers and condolences to Susan and the family. Ann was a great person and will be missed. She would come in the UPS Store to ship packages out and wouldn’t let anyone take care of her other than me. She would always come in and if she didn’t see me she would ask ( where’s my boy ) . She will be missed!
