Obituary

Anna Lee Prokity Hoffman, 95, of Charleston, WV, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025.

Born in 1930 in Nicholas County, WV, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Berta McClung. Anna grew up on a small family farm alongside her parents and her sister, Mary Lou (McClung) Roberts. She completed her undergraduate studies at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV, and later earned her master’s degree from Morris Harvey College in Charleston. For over three decades, Anna worked as a teacher and guidance counselor in the Kanawha County schools, cherishing her time with the children at Ruffner Elementary and other schools she supported. A devoted educator, she inspired countless students and dedicated her life to shaping young minds. Anna had a passion for learning and loved imparting knowledge, both in and out of the classroom.

In 1950, she married Ivan “Chip” Prokity and moved to Charleston, where they welcomed their son, John. Anna was a supportive mother who, although never playing tennis herself, cheered John on from the sidelines during his junior and collegiate tennis careers. She instilled a strong work ethic in him, influencing his decision to pursue a degree in Engineering at West Virginia University. The strong work ethic and kindness she instilled in John continue to resonate with him as a father today.

After the loss of Chip, Anna found love again with Howard Irvin Hoffman. For more than thirty-three years, she and Irv enjoyed taking trips, ballroom dancing, and working together on their home and family farm. They particularly loved traveling across the country with her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Hubert Roberts.

Anna’s purpose in life shifted when John and his wife, Rebecca, expanded their family. She embraced her role as Grandma Anne to her three grandchildren—Corey, Anna, and Callen—with open arms and a full heart. Her home was always a welcoming sanctuary filled with delicious meals and treats, ensuring there was always something special for them after school. Anna loved spending summers with her grandchildren, playing at the Greenbrier pool, hosting soccer games in her front yard, and visiting the Kanawha County Public Library, always weaving in meaningful lessons along the way. Before her passing, Anna was blessed to meet her great-grandson, Owen, the son of Anna and Casey Lester.

We invite you to honor Anna’s remarkable life and the impact she had on so many. A memorial service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on November 29, 2025, at Christ Church United Methodist, located at 1221 Quarrier Street, Charleston, WV.

Anna’s legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to others will forever be cherished in the hearts of all who knew her.
