Obituary
April Joy McGraw was born on April 6th, 1956, in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, to parents Edward Haring Sr. and Joanne Haring. She peacefully passed away on March 10th, 2024, under Hospice care at CAMC Memorial Hospital after her long battle with liver failure.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Shirley Haring and Richard Haring; as well as her only son, William Dune McGraw.
A few of her loved ones left to bereave her are her husband of 50 years, Dorsey (Dune) McGraw, and their beloved cat, Thelma (and Louise, passed a few years back). Her siblings; Martha Hamblen, Edward Haring, and Cheryl Thacker. Her grandchildren are Brittney Lyons, William McGraw, Hailey Stone, and Emily Lewis. She had 6 great grandchildren. She had many, many more nieces and nephews, aunt and uncles, cousins, family, and friends who will never forget her presence in their lives and will carry her memory wherever adventure leads them.
She enjoyed telling stories about being a kid on her grandparents’ farm in PA. She spent most of her life in Cleveland, Ohio. She lived in Florida for a while and spent her last few years in West Virginia.
April quit school her senior year in high school because adventure awaited and beckoned her, and she just had to heed the call. She made friends wherever she went, whether it was from childhood or just waiting in the doctors office together. She would talk to any stranger and wish them the best after listening to their life story and sharing hers. (Even if sometimes she made hers up just for fun.) She was willing to try almost anything once, even if it got her into trouble. She was a wonderful homemaker. She could take pictures, what nots, and frames, and make a house into a beautifully decorated, comfy, and cozy home. She enjoyed cooking, sometimes waking a taste tester in the middle of the night to try a pancake, gravybread, or fried potato sandwich before they’ve fully opened their eyes. She loved shopping, especially thrift shopping, but it didn’t matter if it was for food, clothes, or her most beloved SHOES!! It didn’t matter if it was for herself or someone else. April Joy loved her name, the color pink, and laughing. She enjoyed music, tv, and movies of all genres and all decades, but Christmas themes were her favorite. What she enjoyed most of all was talking. To family, to friends, to strangers, to telemarketers, it didn’t matter, she just enjoyed conversations.
She will be missed epically, there was no one else like her on this earth.
A Limb Fallen
A limb has fallen from the family tree,
I keep hearing a voice say, “Grieve not for me.” Remember the best times, the laughter, the song, the good life I lived while I was strong. Continue my heritage, I’m counting on you. Keep smiling and surely, the sun will shine through. My mind is at ease, and my soul is at rest. Remembering all, how I truly was blessed. Continue traditions, no matter how small. Go on with your life. Don’t just stare at the wall. I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin. Until the day comes, we’re together again.
