Obituary

Barbara Ann Spruce, of Charleston, West Virginia, passed away on September 24, 2023, at the Hubbard House – West. She was 81 years old.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Jesse Spruce, her two sisters, Mary Beth and Susan, and many other endeared family.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Ashley Spruce; brother, Billy Spruce; and beloved cousin, Bonnie Thomas, among other extended family.

Barbara was a loving, dedicated mother and friend who touched the hearts of everyone. She was passionate about her job as an elementary school secretary, where she brought joy to all who knew her. Words cannot describe how much she will be missed!

Private memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston, WV.

Visitation will begin one hour prior at the funeral home.

  1. Dear Ashley, We are very sad to hear the news of your mother. She was a loyal co-worker and friend. I was privileged to have worked with her at Mary Ingles and Overbrook schools for several years. She was an outstanding secretary who knew her job well. She was an asset to the workplace in every way. Most of all, Barbara always made it clear that she loved you dearly and was so very proud of you.   3. Ashley I’m so sorry about your mom. I talked with Bonnie Ruth this morning. Your mom was my cousin but we havent had contact for 10 years as I’ve been sick and so was she. I loved her very much. She was so good to my grandchildren in school. She and Bonnie Ruth and I grew up together. My deepest sympathy and love. I’m here in Charleston f you ever need anything. She was a wonder cousin and also my friend. I loved her.

  4. I just loved working with Barbara. She had such patience and a wonderful sense of humor. Always cheerful and ready to help. A whole lot of people will remember her and miss her. My deep condolences for her passing. May she rest in eternal peace.
