Obituary

Barbara Sue (Grose) Gardner, 74, of Charleston, WV, died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at WVU Thomas Memorial Hospital of complications of Pleural Mesothelioma. She was the daughter of the late Ray and Dotty Grose of Charleston.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Jessica of Washington, DC; her brother who assisted Barbara with her brave fight during her illness, Tommy Grose (Jim), and sister, Margy (David) of Charleston; nephew, Eric King of Charleston; niece, Katie King (Jeffrey DeSantis); great nephew Julian DeSantis and great niece, Alexandra DeSantis of Little Rock, AR. She is also survived by the father of her daughter, Gregory (Jaime) Gardner, and former in-laws, Mary Lou Midcap and Rollin Gene Gardner. She was preceded in death by her former mother-in-law, Madlyn Gardner. Barbara also is survived by many cousins – the Kyles, the Connells, the Bartons, and the Groses. She considered her cousins, Nancy Carpenter and Jerry Kyle, to be like special siblings. Barbara treasured all of her church friends and also considered them to be members of her extended family.

She was a 1972 graduate of Morris Harvey College (The University of Charleston) and retired from Verizon. She enjoyed singing, gardening, and nature, and loved being retired. Barbara was a lifelong member of Elizabeth Memorial United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home, 1118 Virginia Street East, Charleston, WV, with burial at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston, WV, immediately following. Officiating will be Pastor Frank Shomo.

Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
