Obituary

Betty Josephine “Jo” Olive, 77, of Charleston, WV, passed away June 30, 2025.

She was born on September 24, 1947, in Charleston, the daughter of the late Seth and Bessie (Skiles) Bailey.

Betty was employed as a cook and cashier at Bowincal’s for 20-plus years and with Holiday Inn Charleston House for 10-plus years before retirement. She attended Spradling Gospel Tabernacle Church on Bakers Fork in Charleston.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 24 years, Steven Olive; grandson, Jonathan E. Stewart; brothers, William “Bill” Bailey, John “Beetle” Bailey, Arthur “Jake” Stover; grandparents, Halford and Ella Skiles, and Christopher and Cassie Bailey; son-in-law, George E. Stewart; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Harracks; brother-in-law, Gary Harper; beloved pet, Kayla K. Olive; and aunts and uncles.

Betty is survived by her children, Paula Stewart of St. Albans, Pamela Smith of Poca, WV, Gary Joe Harracks of Charleston, Regina Centers of Charleston, Joseph “Joey” Skiles (Lisa) of Charleston, Susan Larch (Emory) of Elkview; sister, Sussion “ Sue” Harper of Elkview; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the nursing staff and staff at Charleston Healthcare Nursing Home in Kanawha City.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
