Suzanne and Laura, I loved Betty. She was always such a good friend to me. I hadn’t seen much of her in the last few years but thought of her often. She gave me a lot of her flower bulbs when she became unable to tend to her beautiful flower garden. These beautiful flowers bloom all over my yard and I think of her as I enjoy them everyday. Your Dad was a wonderful person also and they were the perfect match. So much in love!!! You were very lucky to be their daughters. Feel free to get in touch with me anytime.

Suzanne: We are so sorry for your loss. I will always remember your mom and dad pulling up in the driveway and your mom getting out and yelling to me with that big boisterous voice of hers. She would always give me a big hug. You and your family will be in our prayers. Love you guys.

Dear Suzanne and Lauranand family;
In 1960, John Adams, junior high school opened in the old Garnet high school building on Dickinson Street behind the post office. Since there was no school bus service for the school in the area, I lived in, Forest Hills, we rode city transit buses. The spot that we got out and got on was located at the corner of Capitol Street and Virginia Street. That means we walked from that point all the way to the junior high school. On our way was a men’s store, Frankenbergers. It was only natural that we went in, as we had nothing to do for a long time while waiting for the bus. Somehow or another, I found out that my parents had a charge account there, and I started buying clothes. It was there that I met your father. We remained friends until he retired from Kelly’s men shop. He was about the nicest and smoothest guy that ever lived in Charleston. I bought all my clothes from him, all my shoes from Bill Fish and the hats I bought from old Mr. Collison. It was a glorious time.
The pictures of your mother in the obituary are telling. In the period from when the first picture was taken and the last, it doesn’t look like she’s aged at all. She must’ve been a wonderful person to be with all these years. And, she had a great guy like Bill Rickenbacker to be a husband.
I don’t often write letters like this, but your father was a great friend and I wish you both and your family very well. I just had to tell you.
Jonathan Cavendish.
