Obituary

Bonnie Jean Hoffman, 78, of Clendenin, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026, at Hubbard Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family.

Bonnie radiated love and remained a shining light, even in the face of dementia. She was a beautiful woman, both inside and out, who gave selflessly to others throughout her life. Her greatest joy was her family. She deeply loved her husband, Cliff; her children, April and Jason; her five grandchildren; her brother and sister; her great-grandchildren; and her many nieces and nephews. Family was the center of her world, and she treasured every moment spent with those she loved.

Bonnie instilled in her children a love for life and an appreciation for the beauty found in everyday moments. She found joy in nature—the sunrise and sunset, the moon and stars, watching birds, and especially the beach. Having lived in both Florida and California, she spent many happy years by the ocean, and she carried that love throughout her life with countless family beach vacations filled with treasured memories.

Bonnie’s compassion, empathy, and kindness touched everyone she met. Even as dementia changed so much, it never diminished her caring heart. She continued to worry about others, offer love, and share the warmth of her beautiful spirit. The world is a better place because Bonnie was in it, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Bonnie is survived by her loving daughter, April Kearns; her devoted son, Jason Hoffman (Michelle); her cherished grandchildren, Michael Kearns (Brittany), Jamie Meckley (Todd), Gavin Reid (Rita), Savannah Burns (Chad), and Madaleah French (Luke); her beloved siblings, brother, Bob Pettit and her sister, Patricia Thompson, who were her lifelong best friends; brother in law Dean Hoffman, Barry Hoffman (Charlotte), Tim Hoffman (Valorie), Kelton Hoffman (Jennifer); sister in law Carol Franks (Theron), Connie Hamby (Doug), and Rosetta Wiseman (Rodney). She also leaves behind her treasured great-grandchildren: Molli, Tyson, Kase, Caroline, Brinley, Avalyn, Roger, Wesley, Rita, and Finnley, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Cliff Hoffman; her mother, Mary Pettit; her father, Edgar Pettit; her sister in law Barbara Pettit; her brother in law Bob Thompson and her niece, Mandy Thompson.

In keeping with Bonnie’s generous spirit, she chose to donate her remains to the Human Gift Registry at the WVU School of Medicine. Honoring her wishes, a joyful Celebration of Life

picnic will be held August 15, 2026, (location/time TBA), where all whose lives she touched are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate the love she so freely gave.

In lieu of flowers for the family, expressions of sympathy can be shared by providing flowers, food, or a donation to the residents of Brookdale Charleston Gardens, where she received care and kindness from so many devoted caregivers, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, one of her favorite charities.
