Obituary

Carole Jean Carter, 76, was born May 17, 1947, to Winifred and Nevin Carter, who pre-deceased her. She passed on April 22, 2024, after an extended illness.

She graduated from Grove City College in Pennsylvania before moving to Charleston, WV. Carole was a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. In that time, she was active in all phases of worship. She sang in the choir, played the piano and handbells, sang in and produced dramas for the Presbyterian Women, and was the interim Choir Director twice. Carole was Chairman of the Worship Committee and served on many Search Committees, and helped with Vacation Bible School and communion preparation. She became an honorary life-member of Presbyterian Women.

For over 30 years, Carole worked at public radio, where she produced an award-winning show called Tuesday’s Child and maintained their web page.

When asked to do a task, she was always there and was always willing. Carole was also active in The Larry Parsons Chorale, West Virginia Symphony chorus, Charleston Civic chorus, Kanawha Players, and Charleston Stage Company.

  1. My family and I spent many summers at Montreat with Carole. She was always a lovely and inspirational lady. Always loved listening to her singing. Also, enjoyed the time my son and I were able to spend with her during her stay at Harmony.
