Obituary
Funeral service has been postponed due to inclement weather.
Carolyn Ann (Penix) Miles, 84, of Scott Depot, WV, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 27, 1941, to the late Gus Estes and Ardella (Glancy) Penix in Marmet, WV.
Carolyn is survived by her sons: Kevin (Lynette) Broggi of Hickory, NC, and Brian (Lisa) Broggi of Scott Depot, WV; brothers: Larry (Jane Hange) Penix of Charleston, WV, and Gus (Carleen) Penix of Morgantown, WV; grandchildren: Nicole Broggi, Anna Broggi, Kristian (Jasmine) Broggi, and Justin Broggi; great-grandchildren: Haylee, Solomon, and Melody, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is also survived by two special friends, Sandy Morris and Carolyn Dunlap.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Fred Penix of Hurricane, WV.
Carolyn was a child of God, who lived her life loving and caring for people. She loved working with the youth at Marmet First Baptist Church, when she was raising her children in Marmet. She volunteered at youth shelters and worked with troubled youths in the Charleston area.
Carolyn worked as an accountant for most of her life. First, for private companies, then for Sacred Heart Church for nineteen years, and the last twenty years in a CPA office.
In lieu of flowers, Carolyn’s wishes were that donations be made in her memory to local food pantries or women’s and children’s shelters.
Carolyn will be remembered and missed by all who knew her, especially her family, for her enduring strength and love.
Funeral service has been postponed due to inclement weather.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.barlowbonsall.com.
Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

I was so saddened to hear of Carolyn’s passing. I have such sweet memories of Carolyn when I was young and living in Marmet, WV. She was one of those individuals who could put a smile in your day by her upbeat personality and funny antics. Those memories stay with you through life and become a part of you. Carolyn had been on my mind so often for the past few months, but I was unable to reach her on attempted phone calls. This has become a lesson to me that when the Lord places someone on your heart, persevere until you reach them. Thank you, Carolyn for being such a blessing to all those whose life you touched, including mine. Some day I will see that beautiful smile once again. Our sincere condolences to the family at this difficult time in life. (Psalm 116:15)

My family and I were so saddened to hear that Carolyn is no longer with us. She brought a lot of love and inspiration to our family with her never ending faith and optimism. We in turn loved her. My grandchildren still have poems she wrote for them and memories of the all to rare visits we were able to share. I will miss the phone conversations she and I had ending in her amazing prayers. She will be missed.
With deepest sympathy to your family.

Carolyn is the best mother in law I could ever ask for. I will treasure all the memories and fun we’ve had through the years. I’m so glad she was able to make it Down to NC to see her great granddaughter after she was born. I’ll love her always!
