Obituary

Carolyn Jane “Katie” Javins, 83, passed away peacefully on February 26th, 2025, surrounded by family in her residence after a long-term illness.

Katie was preceded in death by her parents, Howard C. and Oredia E. Loudermilk of South Charleston; her husband, Earl Javins; grandson, Brandon Javins; daughter, Brenda Javins; son-in-law, Donnie Jarrell, all of Charleston, as well as her seven brothers and sisters.

She leaves behind those to carry on her memory, daughter Teresa (Ron) Boggess of St Albans, daughter Carol Jarrell (partner Gene Walker) of Charleston, daughter Kimberly Javins of South Charleston, and daughter Stephanie (Chris) Harrison of Oklahoma. She is also honored by her grandchildren, Jason Jarrell of Charleston, Jeremy (Olivia) Boggess of Dunbar, Brian Jarrell of Charleston, Christopher (Hannah) Harrison of St Albans, Bradley (Courtney) Boggess of Teays Valley, Sheldon (Hannah) Harrison of Hurricane, Nathan (Brittni) Harrison and Katelyn Harrison, both of Oklahoma, as well as 17 great-grandchildren, and a slew of nieces and nephews.

Katie, born June 5th, 1941, spent her life dedicated to the service of others. She never knew a stranger, and would give away her last penny to anyone in need. She attended South Charleston High School and through her stories, she thoroughly enjoyed her childhood. She especially loved telling the stories that involved the antics of her and her twin brother Ted “Chubby.” She was “mom” to everyone in her family and sacrificed endlessly to ensure all of their well-being. She enjoyed being social, raising her daughters, and tending to others through various professions. Her favorites included doing hair, operating a small local bar with her partner Larry and being a home health care provider. In her later years, she enjoyed puzzles, her evening tv shows, listening to music and people watching from her porch. Katie was at peace and was ready to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and to reunite with those she follows to heaven.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Katie’s caretakers, Betty Coleman and Melinda Boggess, as well as the wonderful nurses and doctors from HospiceCare of Charleston.

A memorial service for family and close friends will be held at a later date.

In leu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Katie’s Honor be made to HospiceCare of Charleston, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W., Charleston, WV 25387 or online at https://www.hospicecarewv.org/ .

I am so terribly sorry for your loss. I really only have vague memories from my childhood. I have a picture in my head of her sitting in the living room when we visited y’all and all of us girls were running in and out of the house playing. My Mom talked about Uncle Earl and Aunt Katie often. She loved them both very dearly. I know they are now all together in heaven and having a good time.
