Obituary

Charlene Wilda Burdette, age 70, of Charleston, WV, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at WVU Medicine Thomas Hospital. She was born April 27, 1954, in South Charleston, a daughter of the late Charles William Dixon and Anna Belle Snead Dixon.

Charlene was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Dale “Yogie” Burdette, and her sister, Diana Kay Scott.

She retired from Sissonville Foodland, where she was loved by her co-workers and customers. She loved search-a-word books, handheld video games, swinging on her front porch, spending time with her family, McDonalds coffee with 3 cream and 5 Splenda, and meals at Golden Corral where if you go before 3 pm, you get the senior citizen special.

Charlene is survived by her daughters, Candi Davis (Mike) of Sissonville, Angie Guthrie (Scott) of Ripley, and Tammy Ann Choosri of BKK, Thailand; grandchildren, Stephanie Cubias (Will), Jessie Savilla (Anthony), Jason and Nathan Cline, Bethany Pack (Ethan), Gabe Boonnak of Virginia, Kannika and Kati Boonnak of BKK, Thailand; great-granddaughter, Oakley Pack, and great-grandson, Akin Lindblad, and siblings, Charles “Bub” Dixon (Judy) and Johnny Ray Dixon (Rose), both of Ohio, Sharon Bernard (Donny) of Oklahoma, Timmy Dale Dixon (Kathy) of West Virginia, and George “Rudy” Hanna (Jenny), Tommy Lee Hanna, and Jeannie Setliff (Jeff), all of North Carolina. She also leaves many family members and friends who will miss receiving their birthday and Christmas cards every year which were always SWAK (sealed with a kiss), her potato salad, her biscuits and gravy, her loud humor and laughter, and her corny jokes and responses. “How are you doing today?” well she was always “Finer than hair on a frog’s back split three ways and parted down the middle!”

Her mommy always called her “Lil” short for Lily. Her favorite color was yellow so on her birthday this year and every year, add some yellow to your day to remember her.

Take the time to watch this clip, https://youtu.be/OSbc1vn6O6I. If she was on the phone with you, she’d put you on hold so she could watch her favorite scene of The Avengers (2012) “Puny God.”

To her siblings, we are so sorry that you will not receive your yearly out-of-tune happy birthday song even though she should have kept her day job.

Per her wishes, she will be cremated, placed with her husband’s cremains, and be buried at the Boyd-Burdette Cemetery. There will be no services, but if you want to send her anything, she’ll “take a million dollars.”
“Don’t cry because she’s gone, smile because she was ours.”

Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Dear Candi , All Charlene’s Family and Friends,
Just now heard of Charlene’s passing . What an extraordinary person she is and was. She was truly special in every way. Very smart, tough, firm but fair but still compassionate. Being around Charlene made you better. She commanded respect and always got it deservedly so . We kept in touch over the years and Christmas would not be Christmas without seeing Charlene at Christmas time to reminisce and catch up . Thoughts and prayers are with you always and may that wonderful Charlene Spirit rest in peace .
With Much Love and Deepest Sympathy,

She loved her siblings so much. She had so much Baby Yoda stuff new in bags and we all know who she bought that for.

      Love you
