Obituary

Clarence William Coffman, 76, of Hurricane, WV, passed away September 22, 2026, at CAMC Memorial Hospital.

He was born October 7, 1949, in Charleston, WV, to parents Thomas Lee Coffman and Burneze Frances (Combs) Coffman. Clarence was a 1967 graduate of Herbert Hoover High School. As young men, he and his brother, Thomas, often spoke of joining the Navy when they became eligible. Soon after graduation, both Thomas and Clarence joined the U.S. Navy, but the brothers were never stationed at the same port at the same time. During Clarence’s 18-year career in the Navy, he became a nuclear engineer, often living onboard a submarine while at sea for six months at a time. Following his honorable discharge, he moved to South Carolina where he was a supervisor at a nuclear power plant until his retirement.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas Coffman and Walter “Sonny” Coffman, and his sister, Zenola Coffman.

Clarence is survived by his brother, R. Steven Coffman of South Charleston, WV, along with a niece and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Clarence had a love for sports cars, Trans Ams to be specific. He owned many throughout his long life, including one with the same paint scheme as the one from Smokey and the Bandit. He was a Baptist by faith.
