Obituary
Cora Lynn Cook, 70, of St. Albans, WV, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division, after a long battle with lung disease, surrounded by her loved ones.
Throughout her life, she fought hard and loved even harder. A fierce protector of the ones she loved, she was blessed with the gift of a warm heart, always there with a helping hand, a listening ear, or a warm hug to those in need.
She was preceded in death by her Mother, Gay (Bragg) Cook, and her Father, Watt Cook.
Cora is survived by her three children, David Lee McIlraith, wife Susan Taylor, Josette Nichole Steele, and Jessica Lynn Bunner, husband, Joseph Kent Bunner; grandchildren, Lillian Renee Steele, Madison Christine Mallory, Keegan Neal McIlraith, Chloe Mikayla Ball, Savannah Nichole Ball, and Logan Kent Bunner, and great-grandchildren, Jullian Craver White.
No services will be held.

This is being submitted years after her passing because for some reason I started thinking about Cookie just recently. I met Cookie in Alderson in 1986. What she went through was awful; the violence, the fires, the prison time for something she should never have been convicted for.
Cookie was a sweet person. She held her dignity the entire time she was incarcerated.
I was in on a federal marijuana charge, a long sentence that was ridiculous. Fortunately for me, after almost 4 years, my case won it’s appeal. Cookie endured another trail and still did not come out.
I do hope her life finally out was peaceful and rewarding. She truly deserved it.
