Obituary
Corena Mae Melton, 91, passed away peacefully September 3, 2023, at the Arthur B. Hodges Center after a long illness.
Mae spent over 30 years in State Government as Executive Assistant to Chauncey H. Browning, Jr. through his many years of service, first as State Commission of Public Institutions and then through his four terms as Attorney General of West Virginia. Following her retirement with the State, she created and founded the successful “Hair We Are Salon” at Ashton Place and, later, helped established “O’Hair’s Salon” in Kanawha City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mark and Bessie Boggess and was the widow of former Charleston Mayor G. Kemp Melton.
She is survived by her daughters, Jeanie Melton and Cindy Dobson (Barry); four grandchildren, Corena Maiden (Travis May), Kate Forman (Isaac), David Dobson (Kelly) and Cory Dobson (Catherine Bui), and four great-grandchildren, Jordan and McKenzie May and Nora and Vera Forman.
Mae enjoyed shopping, cooking, watching old movies, and spending time with her family. She was greatly loved and will be forever missed.
