Obituary
David henry garland, of nitro/of south charleston, born, february 5, 1956, passed away the morning of december 23, 2016 at hubbard hospice house-west in thomas hospital, after a battle with cancer.
David was preceded in death by his parents, tanner and viola vi psathas garland of parkersburg; and by his brother, t. Ben garland jr. Of vienna, wv.
David attended george washington high school, west virginia university, and graduated cum laude from marietta college, marietta, ohio. When david passed his certified public accountant exam, it was with the highest test score in the state of west virginia that year. He was very proud of the plaque he received for his accomplishment.
David pursued other lines of work, ranging from sales positions to cpa positions, spending several years as a cpa with shell oil company before finding his niche with h & r block at the nitro office, deeply satisfied there as a tax preparer for several years. His focus was on exceeding the core values of h&r block and helping every client to have the best tax experience. His clients were more than clients because he considered them all his friends and had a deep interest in them. He was never too busy to lend a helping hand. He will be greatly missed by his co-workers and by many people whose lives he touched, his greatest sorrow throughout his illness was that he would be unable to work another tax season.
David enjoyed his pet dogs, buddy and dolly, and cooking.. He was an avid sports fan, rooting for the pittsburgh pirates. He knew every statistic about any football or baseball player. He will be remembered for always having a tall story to tell or a good joke to share. He could also show boundless compassion.
David is survived by his fiancã©e, patricia (pat) roberts, whom he always wanted by his side (also employed by h & r block at the southridge office); his twin brother, daniel h. Garland of las vegas, nev.; brother, george manis of layton, utah; sister, eve bradford and her husband, charles of parkersburg; sister, jo ann philpott and her husband, charles of philpott, va; and brother, earl garland of bluefield, va.
