Obituary

David Houston Carter, 77, of Charleston, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on June 8, 2025. David was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William J. Carter and Mary F. Carter.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy J. Carter; his sisters, Bettie Herig (Bob) and Cathie Griggs (Kirk); and his sister-in-law, Sandra Brandenburger (Dan). He also leaves behind his stepdaughter, Kristy Knieriem (Doug); grandchildren, Michael Campbell, Nicholas Campbell (Kirsten), and Brooke Vander Meer (Jakob); and great-granddaughter, Addilynn Campbell.

He is also survived by his nieces, Jennifer Campbell and Kara Wooten; nephews, McClure Kelly (Ellie) and Travis Kelly; and great-niece, Ruby Ebert (Tyler).

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Susie Dean, Lora Chittum, Debra Lanham, April Nuckles, Tandra Spradling, and Kacey Wilson for their exceptional care and compassion. Additional thanks are given to Charlie Fisher, Buck Pelzel, and Steve Blankenship for their steadfast support throughout David’s illness.
