Obituary
David Ray Michael was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He left this world on August 14, 2023, after an extended illness, at the age of 79.
He was born to Ramsey and Grace Michael on August 11, 1944. After graduating from Sherman High School, Dave entered the U.S. Army where he courageously served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. He extended his military service in the U.S. Navy during which time he continued to see the world and serve his country. Shortly after his military service, Dave began his career at Smith Fastener Company in Charleston, WV, from which he retired after more than 40 years of dedicated service.
As a young boy growing up in Boone County, he was known to be a talented basketball player and a speedy track athlete. He may have been known to challenge one to a footrace to settle the record of who was most fleet of foot. He was a knowledgeable sports fan and dedicated many years to coaching youth baseball. In his later years, Dave could often be found outside his home, enjoying time in his carefully manicured lawn. Most of all, he was known for being a loving family man and true friend.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Judy Michael, and his son, Dave Michael Jr. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Dixon.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a reception in celebration of Dave’s life from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home, 1118 Virginia Street East, Charleston, WV.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hubbard Hospice House, https://www.hospicecarewv.org .

Judy, Dave Jr. and family-So sorry for your loss. Dave was a true friend and more. He was a man’s man who you could confide in and would tell you the straight truth no matter what. I’m going to miss all the good times and talks which he always made time for. Praying for all of you that the peace of God which passes all understanding will be with you.
