Obituary

Debra (Debbie) Bumpus Brown peacefully entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on May 29, 2025. She was born on April 4, 1958, and spent most of her life as a resident of Charleston, WV.

Debbie last resided at the Grande Village Villas, in Twinsburg, OH. She was well loved by both residents and staff. She formed special relationships with her dining partners, and the four of them were lovingly referred to as the golden girls. She was known for her smile and kindness and will be missed by many.

Debbie was a nurse for 40 years with CAMC. Her passion was orthopedics and she took great pleasure in helping patients heal and return to a productive life. Through her career, she received numerous certifications and awards.

She served as the family historian and captured all special moments through her love of scrapbooking. Debbie loved spoiling her family at birthdays, weddings, and especially Christmas. Her special love for Christmas was evident as she lavished everyone with beautifully decorated packages and maintained important gift giving traditions.

She looked forward to the yearly vacation and especially her morning breakfast outings with nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father. Robert “Bob” Ira Bumpus of Charleston.

Survivors include her mother, Joyce Fields Bumpus of Charleston; brother, Bob Bumpus of Teays Valley, WV, and sisters, Patty Bumpus of Charleston and Joy Bumpus Trachsel of Twinsburg. Her greatest joy were her nieces, nephews and their spouses and the precious great nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Susan Cavendar, Dr. Douglas Dockery and the amazing team at University Hospitals in Cleveland, OH.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Elk River Nazarene Church, 143 Dutch Road, Charleston, WV 25302, in Debbie’s honor. The church ministered to her in so many ways.

A celebration of life service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on June 30, 2025, at Elk River Nazarene Church, 143 Dutch Road, Charleston, WV 25302.

Visitation will begin two hours prior at the church.

  2. A beautiful soul, caring and compassionate. A great nurse and I learned so much from her while working on 6 South. She will be missed by many.
