Obituary
Our father, Don Adams, passed away on February 4th, 2023, after a brief illness. Our mother, Mary Sue Adams, joined him on August 8th, 2023, after a very long battle with Alzheimer’s. There were perhaps no other couple more in love with each other and their family.
Don was born in Baileysville, WV, on January 6, 1936, to Grat and Vida Adams. Sue was born in Pineville, WV, on November 14, 1937, to C.A. and Inez Blankenship. Don graduated from Baileysville High and Sue from Pineville High. Both went on to graduate from Marshall College and somehow two lovebirds from rival high schools found each other and, on January 30, 1959, were married. Both started teaching in Wyoming County and when son Jay came along in 1961 they moved to Charleston where Don took a job in the State Treasurer’s office. A second son, Andy, was born in 1965. Sue retired as the payroll clerk for the House of Delegates in 1981 and Don was Assistant State Auditor for many years and retired from the State Highway Department in 1997. Beloved grandchildren came along in 1996 and 1997. Christopher to Jay and Beth, Katy to Andy.
In their extended retirement, they loved going to the beach. Don enjoyed many rounds of golf and Sue took up showing Cabin Creek quilts at arts and crafts shows all over the east coast. She then started a doll collecting hobby that turned out to be quite impressive.
They are survived by their son, Jay and daughter-in-law, Beth, living in Florida; son, Andy in Charleston; grandchildren, Christopher and Katy, and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no service. Their final wish was to be cremated, their ashes mixed together and spread out over their property. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to HospiceCare, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W, Charleston, WV 25387.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.barlowbonsall.com.
Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dear cousins, whom I never met, my mom, Beulah Blankenship (Basham) Spears was a sister to Arthur. we lived in Pineville until my parents, Beulah and Sandy Basham, divorced in 1958. mother and I moved to Princeton. and later both if us ended up in Huntsville AL. I tried to keep in touch with Sue and her sisters. Got to meet most of their children over the years. I continue to Facebook with Patty’s daughters in TN. when I was a toddler, we lived near Don’s parents in Baileysville. Once I disappeared, later to be found in the Adams’ kitchen, sitting in the middle of their kitchen table, eating jelly from a jar! sue abd I last saw each other at a large Blankenship family reunion in I think Beckley, many moons ago. please accept my loving sympathy and condolences in the loss of your parents, especially so close time-wise. Reading their obituary was a delight in getting to hear their love story. May God bless all of you at this sad time. .Linda Badham Drake
