Obituary

Donna caroline patchell, 95, of charleston entered the world on december 15, 1921 and quietly slipped out on july 6, 2017 to join her beloved husband, dr. Robert patchell, to whom she was married for 64 years before his death in 2007. Donna was born in gravenhurst, ontario, canada to the late osborne and flora bush. She was their second of four children; older sister madeline and twin brothers ostin and osborne also preceded her in death.

Donna grew up on bush farm in gravenhurst and was a registered nurse before becoming a homemaker and eventually owning and operating house of stones, a jewelry store on charleston’s west side for many years. In 1963, she moved with her husband and family to the united states and resided in new jersey before settling in charleston and becoming a united states citizen. She had a great sense of humor and could always be found with a book in her hand or watching the cardinals in her yard. She enjoyed playing bridge, fishing, rooting for the toronto blue jays, funny birthday cards and champagne sundays with her best friend janet. But most of all, she loved spending summers with her family at “home” on riley lake in canada.

Donna is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, jane and robert atkins, of madison, wv and her son and daughter-in-law, james and pam patchell, of canmore, alberta, canada. Also left to tell the tales are her grandchildren shannon (matt) milroy, jessica (steve) fielding, kyle (samantha) atkins, megan atkins, robert (kim) patchell and jillian (marshall) ezelle. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren raelyn and landry milroy, emma caroline fielding and rowan and alice patchell, who she adored.

She will forever be remembered with joy and laughter. Cheers, dondon!

The family would like to thank her wonderful caregivers at tender heart home care of charleston for taking such care of donna during her final years.

Per donna’s wishes, her body will be cremated and a private, family memorial service will be held at “home” at a later date.
