Obituary
Dora alice (harrison) clarke, age 80, went to be with the lord on monday, january 9, 2017. She was surrounded by her loved ones.She was born on may 26, 1936, in kenna, to byron nelson and esther (dewees) harrison. She was the second of four children. Dora spent most her life in charleston. On july 8, 1961, she married samuel carr clarke and they settled in dunbar until sam’s career took them to texas, missouri, new jersey and pennsylvania, before returning to charleston, together they had three children, tammie northrop, doug clarke and traci aulenbacher.Dora retired from eastern american energy corporation in the spring of 2007 after many years of service. She was active in her retirement. She loved to read, travel and spend time with family and friends. More than anything, dora cherished being gigi and grammy to her grandchildren.A lifelong christian, dora worshiped at mount calvary baptist church.She is survived by her children; tammie (paul) northrop, doug (lesley) clarke, traci (george) aulenbacher; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers, alan (elizabeth) harrison, ernie(rebecca) harrison, and four nieces and nephews.Dora was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, nelson, and her husband, sam.Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.M, thursday, january 12, and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.M., friday, january 13, at mount calvary baptist church, bigley avenue, charleston. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.M., friday, at the church.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to mount calvary baptist church, the union mission or woman’s choice (a pro-life organization). Dora will be remembered for her faith, compassion and generous love.Barlow bonsall funeral home has been entrusted to handle the arrangements.
