Obituary
Doris carol cosby vandevender, 76, devoted christian, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend went to be with her lord wednesday, august 19, 2015.
She was born, march 3, 1939 in seth, wv. She was the third child born to reverend william lloyd and beulah gertrude cosby. She was a lifetime resident of west virginia and lived in teays valley.
She graduated from glenville state college with a bachelor’s degree in library science. Carol worked 25 years at the west virginia archives division in charleston, wv. she was a long time member of the charleston baptist temple where she sang in the choir, served on numerous church boards, and worked to preserve the church’s archival documents and photographs. Carol was also an active member of the west virginia baptist historical society. She was an avid gardener and reader. She loved to travel, especially to spend time with her family.
In addition to her parents, doris carol vandevender was preceded in death by her husband, samuel vandevender, and her brothers, lamar and lowell cosby.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, wendy warner day and matthew day; cherished grandsons, turner martin day and ethan matthew day; sisters and their husbands, jane and larry “buck” robinson and joy and charles “bud” ott.
Family and friends are invited to funeral services at the charleston baptist temple, 2:00 p.M. Saturday, august 29, 2015 with dr. Dennis johnson officiating. Her cremains will be interred in sunset memorial park, south charleston.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the west virginia baptist historical society, 1715 lower parchment valley road, ripley, wv 25271.
