Obituary
Dr. Kanoj Kumar Biswas, M.D., FRCOG, FACOG, academic gold medalist of Obstetrics & Gynecology, went to heaven on Saturday, March 25th, 2023, at 10:15 a.m. at Charleston Area Medical Center. The family expresses thanks and gratitude to all the nurses, physicians and physical therapists at CAMC. Dr. Kanoj Kumar Biswas, M.D., strongly valued education and Hindu culture, and, above all else, love for his family.
He is survived by his immediate family that first includes his devoted loving wife of over 56 years, Chandralekha Mukherjee Biswas of Charleston WV, who not only selflessly raised four children with him, but also held master’s degrees in Mathematics, Art, and Music while she was employed as a graphic artist and musician. He is next immediately survived by his loving dedicated eldest son, Korok Biswas, M.S., of Charleston, WV, a successful economist and financial analyst for the state; his youngest determined loving son, Dr. Ronbir Biswas, of Charleston, WV, a neurocritical care and emergency medicine physician for CAMC; and his loving generous son, Dave Biswas, J.D, of Lansing, MI, a reputable attorney.
Dr. Kanoj Kumar Biswas, M.D., is also immediately survived by his sweet loving granddaughter, Leela Biswas of Charleston, WV, who is the most precious diamond to his heart and her wonderful mother Brittany Biswas, also of Charleston, WV, who is not only thought of as a daughter to him, but also who is an experienced ICU R.N. with master’s degree in Nursing, as well as B.S. degrees in Biology and Chemistry. He also considered Brittany’s parents Todd and Diane Elmore of Elkins, WV. to be part of his immediate traditional Hindu family.
His distant family includes son Dr. Kallol Biswas, Ph.D., of Ohio, with his wife, Ananya, and their children, Ankita and Aswina, and well as numerous siblings and relatives in India.
Kanoj Kumar Biswas, M.D., FRCOG, FACOG, was a renowned surgeon that practiced Ob-Gyn in the U.K. and U.S.A. from 1959 to 2009. He graduated with multiple gold medals and highest honors from Medical School at National Medical College. He delivered hundreds of thousands of babies over five decades. He was the expert in complicated Forceps deliveries with multiple publications worldwide and an expert in complicated Gynecology-Oncology surgeries.
He enjoyed lifting weights, farming, reading and publishing articles on medicine and Hinduism, and fishing. In fact, he was an avid experienced fisherman. He was the most humble human being that possessed an immense amount of unmatched talent and skill, and expressed the most genuine love for his family. He was always so proud of his wife and children.
Dr. Kanoj Kumar Biswas, M.D., FRCOG, FACOG, will continue to live in our hearts forever, as his soul will continue to flourish in our Hindu tradition.
