Obituary

Dwan Lee Davis, 62, of Charleston, West Virginia, was called home to Glory on May 21, 2024. He departed this earth unexpectedly, but peacefully in his home following recent medical complications.

Dwan attended Charleston schools, and he was a proud graduate of Charleston High School. He was a long-time and devoted employee of the City of Charleston and Charleston Area Medical Center.

Dwan was the comedian of the family and enjoyed cracking jokes. He would laugh the hardest at his own jokes! He also created hilarious nicknames for everyone – Alex Trebek, Wilma Rudolph and Stevie Nicks to name a few. He loved spending time with family and friends, either in his uncle’s yard or on his porch. He never met a stranger and was well-known to everyone on Ruffner Avenue and the Roosevelt Neighborhood Center. He enjoyed conversing with young men in the neighborhood, motivating them to make good decisions, and he welcomed all to visit with him and sit on his porch. Dwan was a devout San Francisco 49ers fan and loved rooting them on each year.

He is survived by the light of his life, his daughter, Brittany Davis Clements (John “Bam”), of Cross Lanes, West Virginia; his treasured granddaughters, Ca’Mya and Brooklyn; his beloved mother, Brenda Alston, of Goldston, North Carolina; father, Bishop Horace “Roy” Smith, of Tallahassee, Florida; stepfather, Granville Davis, of Goldston, North Carolina; long-time companion and ex-wife, Sandy Davis, of Charleston; sisters, Tracy Dorsey Chapman (Stephen) and Beverly Jones, both of Charleston, Minister Valerie Wilkerson, Kim Smith, and Pastor Sabrina Smith, all of Tallahassee; brothers, Horace Smith and Lorenza Smith, of Tallahassee; and a host of nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Dwan was preceded in death by his grandmother, Juanita Watts; uncles, Thomas Watts, Johnnie Watts, Norman Caldwell and Robert Smith; aunt, Marilyn Caldwell; and nephew, Alex Neophytou.

Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at First Baptist Church, 423 Shrewsbury Street, Charleston, with Rev. Dr. Lloyd A. Hill officiating. Interment at Spring Hill Cemetery will follow.

The visitation will precede the funeral at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Roosevelt Neighborhood Center, 502 Ruffner Avenue, Charleston, West Virginia 25311.
