Obituary

Eloise Nixon Jones, 79, of Charleston, WV, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025.

She was the daughter of the late Bill and Polly Nixon, who raised Eloise and her three sisters in Vienna, VA. After high school graduation, Eloise earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education at Radford University. She taught both gifted and elementary students in Kanawha County schools for over 20 years.

Eloise is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Bill; her son, Will and his wife Heather, along with two grandsons, Ryan and Luke, all of Arlington, VA; her daughter, Karen Rittmeyer and her husband Steve of Maine; sisters, Nan Nixon-Flinch and husband Hans, Polly Marcieski and husband Stan, and Jane Leppin and husband Walt; and her many loving nephews and nieces.

Eloise was an active member of her church, Elizabeth Memorial Methodist Church. Recently, she was honored with the renaming of the longtime Sara Circle to the Eloise Circle because of her loving care of so many people. She was also involved in numerous community activities highlighted by organizing and running the first Project Graduation at George Washington High School.

Eloise remained was very active throughout her life. She played tennis for many years, loved downhill skiing with her family, especially her grandchildren, and enjoyed hiking, biking and fishing in the mountains with husband Bill.

Memorial service will be held at 12 noon Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Elizabeth Memorial United Methodist Church, 108 Oakwood Road, Charleston, with Rev. Frank Shomo and Rev. Jonathan Dierdorff officiating.

Visitation will begin one hour prior at the church.

  4. I absolutely adore this lady, she was absolutely wonderful and I loved her very much, even being sick she was always so appreciative and never complained. She was kind and loving . I will miss her so very much. There will always be a whole in my heart for her now that’s she’s gone. Her family is absolutely wonderful as well and I wish them the deepest sympathy. She was loved and will be missed .
