Obituary

Evelyn adams mcchesney-knight, 95, of charleston, west virginia passed away september 29, 2016.
Born in new york, new york, and raised in jersey city, new jersey by her parents, john adams (deceased) and elizabeth hopper adams (deceased). Lynne attended new jersey state teachers college where she obtained her degree in preschool primary education.
Lynne and family eventually made their home in charleston, wv. Lynne was employed at south hills country day school teaching preschool and kindergarten. Eventually, she went on to open, own, and operate a private preschool and kindergarten commonly referred to as “mrs. Mcchesney’s school” on sherwood road in south hills where she taught hundreds of charleston’s children. Lynn continued to be a life-long learner and lover of life through her extensive travel, her participation and membership in the church and sunday school class, book club, birthday club, and creating memories with her family and friends.
Lynne is proceeded in death by her first husband and father of her children, david w. Mcchesney; sister, elizabeth potter; long-time friend and second husband, harrel l. Knight; and son, john f. Mcchesney.
Lynne is survived by her son, david w. Mcchesney; daughters-in-law, joann mcchesney and cindy mcchesney; grandchildren, heather mcchesney, jessica mcchesney (max wyman), adam mcchesney (katie mcchesney), and bryn lang (jeffrey lang); great grandchildren, benjamin, josie, evelyn, owen, lillian, and isaac; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on saturday, october 8, at 1pm at first presbyterian church in the chapel, 16 leon sullivan way, charleston, wv 25301 followed by a reception beginning at 3pm at edgewood summit, 300 baker lane, charleston, wv 25302.
Lynne believed whole heartedly in the importance of a well-rounded education. Therefore, to help other young students further their own education, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be directed to the west virginia university foundation, p.O. Box 1650, morgantown, wv 26507.
