Obituary

Frances Patrick Board “Patty” Jones, age 93, of Charleston, West Virginia, died on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at the Arthur B. Hodges Center at Edgewood Summit, Charleston, with her daughter Katherine by her side.

Patty was born on April 24, 1931, in Wheeling, WV, the only child of Bernard C. Board and Mary Elizabeth Patrick Board. They moved to Charleston where she graduated from Charleston High School in 1949. She majored in Art History and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority at West Virginia University where she graduated in 1953. Patty maintained her interest in art and architecture and after moving in the mid-1970s to Atlanta, Georgia, she graduated from the American Academy for the Applied Arts and attended Southern Technical Institute.

Patty was devoted to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many friends. She loved all of her grand dogs and great grand dogs (too numerous to name) and she especially loved to entertain. She was an avid runner, voracious reader, and supported the Charleston Ballet.

God and her family were the centerpiece of her life. Her strong faith motivated travels to the Holy Land, including as a volunteer with Sar-El providing logistical support to the IDF in early 1990, when Saddam was threatening to burn half of Israel.

In addition to her parents, many aunts and uncles, and others dear to her, she was predeceased by her son, T. Marshall Jones (age 41) in 2000.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Bob (Ann) Jones of Atlanta, GA, Katherine Patrick Jones of Charleston, and daughter-in-law, Heather Heiskell Jones (Brad White) also of Charleston; her grandchildren Chris (Leigh) Jones of Atlanta, and Mary Pat (Isaac) Rodriguez of Dallas, TX, and her five great grandchildren, Marshall, Patrick and Reese Rodriguez of Dallas, and Maggie and Hank Jones of Atlanta.

The family would like to thank the dedicated staffs at CommuniCare, Edgewood Summit and the Arthur B. Hodges Center at Edgewood Summit and Hospice Care for their thoughtfulness and care during her brief time there. Their dedication provided comfort and peace.

Patty will forever be loved, remembered, and missed dearly by her family and friends. Her body will be cremated, and the family will have a true celebration of her life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to T. Marshall Jones Fund c/o the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation, 178 Summers Street, Charleston, WV 25301.

  3. Patty’s Kappa sisters in the Charleston Alumnae Association of Kappa Kappa Gamma are deeply sad to learn of her passing. Patty was an active member of our group, always willing to open her home to our events. She had wonderful stories about her years as a Kappa at WVU. We will miss her very much.
