Obituary

George Martin Lively, V, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025, at 59 years of age, in his treasured home in the West Side of Charleston, WV.

George was born in San Francisco, California, on March 27th, 1966, to Jean Ivins Lively and George Martin Lively, IV, their first child. George studied social work at Fairmont State and at West Virginia University, earned a bachelor’s degree, and fell in love with wild wonderful West Virginia. George was a social worker by profession and spent his career advocating for persons with disabilities, children, veterans, and people experiencing homelessness.

He was preceded by his parents, George and Jean, and his youngest brother, Jonathan.

George is survived by his sister, Coryne, and brother, Geoff; his nephews, Tim and Austin; his niece, Marlene, and his grandnephew, Grayson.

Adventurous and vivacious, George spent his leisure time on the ATV trails, on mountain lakes and waterways, and among friends playing and enjoying music. He was a craft beer aficionado and spent several years as a volunteer for the Bramwell Oktoberfest. He always had great stories around the campfire or on the porch, and was, more often than not, the life of the party wherever he went.

Family and friends will gather from happy hour to sunset on Tuesday, August 5th, 2025, at Sam’s Uptown Cafe on Capitol Street, Charleston, to remember and celebrate George’s life together.
