Obituary

Gerie Ann Selbe, 82, of Charleston, WV, was called home to be with Jesus on December 30, 2025, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.

She was born in Crystal City, TX, on October 14, 1943, to the late Abe and Geraldine (Kyle) Hartveld. She was raised on her stepfather Bernie Bounds’ ranch in Cloudcroft, NM, where they raised cutting horses and Herford cattle, which lead to Gerie Ann becoming a champion barrel racer. She was a graduate of Cloudcroft High School, where she was a member of the FFA, and went on to take classes at New Mexico State University. Gerie Ann worked at various jobs, including advertising and sales for Val-Pak and Freeland’s Furniture and then started her own interior design company called By Design.

Gerie Ann is survived by her husband of 34 years, James William Selbe; daughters, Cecily Paige Thompson (Tommy) and Kimberly Kathleen Edwards; grandchildren, Kyle Daniel Breeden (Brittany), Kaile Nichole Foster (Ibrahim), Jon Patrick Plauche and Jay Dwight Thompson (Brandi), and great-grandchildren, Malia, Kameron, Georgia, Finley, Berkley, Quinton, McKenzie, and Brayden.

She loved spending time working in her garden and caring for many animals throughout her lifetime, but interior design was her true passion.

She was a Christian by faith and a true follower of Jesus Christ.

Gerie Ann’s family would like to give their sincere thanks to the staff at Hubbard Hospice House for their love and care for Gerie Ann during her stay.

Memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home, 1118 Virginia Street East, Charleston, WV.

Visitation will begin one hour prior at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Gerie Ann’s name to the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association, 1248 Greenbrier Street, Charleston, WV 25311 or Tunnel to Towers Foundation (9/11) at https://t2t.org/ .

  1. Blessed are we who spent time in Geri Ann’s company. Her southern charm, engaging laugh and warm personality embraced us all and brought such joy. A talented artist, a popular designer and style maker, and the matriarch of her beloved family, Geri Ann was such fun to be around and a fond friend to many. She was a great lady and I was a fan from the moment I met her. Sending love and sympathy to Jim and the family, Lisa McCracken
