Obituary

Gregory Hilderbrand, 71, of Charleston, WV, passed away March 12, 2026, at CAMC surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born November 2, 1954, in Charleston, to parents Omer and Maxine (Turley) Hilderbrand. A graduate of Sherman High School, Greg retired as Service Advisor at Moses Car Dealership with 20 years of dedicated service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie Hilderbrand.

Greg is survived by his husband of 42 years by the heart and 7 years by law, James Cook; his son, Jamie Hilderbrand (Ruth) of Beckley, WV; brothers, David Dunlap of Nellis, WV, and Tobie Hilderbrand (Aimee) of Stickney, WV; grandchildren, Sydney Hilderbrand (Erin) of the Beckley area, Gregory Hilderbrand (Cassidy) of Beckley, and Christopher Hilderbrand (RayAna) of the Beckley area; brothers-in-law, Steven Cook (Debbie) of Rock Hill, SC, and Michael Cook of Charleston, and several nieces and nephews who he dearly loved. He is also survived by special friends who were there for him through every step of his battle, Larry LaCorte, Linda Carrier, Jerri Smith, and Linda Stover, all of Charleston.

Greg attended Abundant Life Ministries Church. He loved working outside, especially mowing the grass and planting and caring for his many flower beds.

Special thanks to Dr. Hamrick, all of the staff at CAMC and Ruby Memorial Hospital for all the wonderful care given to Greg throughout his illness.

Funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home, 1118 Virginia Street East, Charleston, WV, with the Rev. Tobie Hilderbrand officiating. Immediately following, Greg will be laid to rest in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas, WV.

Visitation will begin one hour prior at the funeral home.
