Obituary
Harold Sylvester Albertson, Jr., (hereinafter ka “Hal”), at age 76, went to be with his heavenly Father on August 21, 2024, resting peacefully after a short battle with cancer at WVU Ruby Memorial Hospital.
Hal grew up in Berwick, PA, and moved to Huntington, WV, in 1964. In 1970, Hal graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS Degree in Mathematics from Marshall University, located in Huntington, WV. Hal joined the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity while he attended Marshall University. Hal was admitted into the West Virginia School of Law, located in Morgantown, WV, and earned his Juris Prudence Degree in 1973. As a former member of the WV State Bar Association, Hal enjoyed the practice of law for 48+/- years in Charleston, WV.
For many years, Hal enjoyed being a member of the Charleston Tennis Club and playing on the men’s tennis team. Hal contributed to winning the 1990 4.0 Men’s Team USTA National Championship. After Hal’s tennis career was over, Hal became an avid golfer and a member of Berry Hills Country Club. Hal enjoyed playing many years of golf with his children, wife and friends. Hal enjoyed attending Bible Center Church and loved God.
Hal had a profound impact on the lives of many – his loving family, friends, co-workers and anyone that he came into contact with. Hal brought so much laughter and joy to his family and friends who knew him. Family and friends will reminisce on the countless ways Hal filled their lives with joy and meaning. Hal never met a stranger. Hal loved to dance and socialize with his fantasy football friends. Hal was the ultimate raconteur, “Hal never missed an opportunity to share a story.” Hal never met a stranger. Hal was generous, kind-hearted and compassionate to others. Whether it was a ride home, a dollar for a cup of coffee or some other genuine act of kindness, Hal continued to help others throughout his life.
Hal’s greatest accomplishment and devotion was to his family. He was an adoring husband and friend, and a terrific and loving father to his children. Hal made continuous efforts to provide for his family, even after he discontinued practicing law. Hal provided opportunities for his wife and children so that they could succeed in life. Hal’s contributions included making sure that his children could be successful academically, athletically, socially and in Christ.
Hal was preceded in death by his father Harold Albertson, Sr., and mother, Iris Albertson of Berwick, PA. Left to remember Hal are his wife, Carol Albertson; sons, Wyatt Albertson and Stephen Mullens, and daughter, Scarlett Albertson of Charleston, WV; in-laws; special brother-in-law, Ricky, and other extended family members and many friends.
The family would like to thank Charleston Area Medical Center, CAMC Cancer Center and WVU Ruby Memorial for Hal’s care.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the CAMC Cancer Center.
A celebration of life will be held from 4:00 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at Bible Center Church, 100 Bible Center Drive, South Charleston, WV.
Visitation will begin one hour prior at the church.

When I pledged Sigma Alpha Epsilon at Marshall University in 1968 Hal was my “big brother” whose job was to look over a pledge until they entered the brotherhood. He was someone I looked up to and a great example for me to follow. I will always remember knowing Hal and enjoying his brotherhood.

I’m sorry to learn of Hal’s passing. My mother was Sheila Perry and she adored him! Her years working at Albertson and Jones along with Jackie were some of her happiest days.
