Obituary

Harry morton talbott, 98, passed away on march 14, 2015. He was born in clarksburg, the son of arthur dale and daisy ethel (morton) talbott. Morton, his mother and brother moved to charleston in 1930.

During ww ll morton served as a chief electrician’s mate with the navy amphibious forces in the pacific theater, including action in the philippine islands and the first landing on okinawa.

He retired from union carbide in1978 as a master electrician, after 28 years of service. He had been a volunteer with kanawha hospice since 1989.

Morton was a member of the united disciples of christ church since 1946 and had served with the elders, trustees, pastoral relations and building and grounds committee, which he chaired. He was featured in charleston newspaper articles in 2008 and 2013 regarding his hospice volunteer service at age 91 and about his look-back on life at age 97. He was an avid gardener and a member of the orchid club and amateur winemakers guild. For many years he was active in the masons and shrine. He was always willing to share his time and a good recipe with friends and family.

He was preceded in death by grace curtis talbott, his wife of 46 years, and his brother william. Morton is survived by his sister, mary ellen o’dell of clarksburg, his sons robert s. Talbott and his wife, judy, of charleston, and daniel curtis talbott of florence, sc. He is also survived by grandchildren tammy lewis-talbott (john), michael talbott (billie jo), cristi talbott dewitt and joe talbott, great-grandchildren brianna, joshua and kaleb talbott, grace lewis, and megan, brittany and jackson talbott and great-great grandchildren annie lewis, izaiha and alayna o’reilly.

Funeral service will be 1 p.M. Friday, march 20, 2015 at barlow bonsall funeral home, charleston with reverend steven smith officiating. Burial will follow at sunset memorial park, south charleston with full military honors. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.M. Thursday, march 19, 2015 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations may be made in memory of morton to: kanawha hospice care, 1606 kanawha blvd., w charleston, wv 25387 and / or disciples of christ church, 100 united disciples drive, south charleston, wv 25309.
