Obituary

Henry havard roberts, age 93, of charleston wv, died in peace at the hubbard hospice house in charleston on saturday, august 26, 2017 after a very short illness but a long and fulfilling life.

Henry was born to william havard roberts and mary perkins roberts in princeton, west virginia on april 10, 1924. He moved to morgantown where he graduated from morgantown high school, and served in the us navy in wwii on the uss cortland. He returned to morgantown where he met his wife nancy palmer, graduated from west virginia university with two bachelor’s degrees and was a member of phi delta theta fraternity. Henry worked for charleston hardware company and then as an auditor for the state legislature until he retired. He spent decades as an ssac official in football and track, was a member of first presbyterian church of charleston, enjoyed sports, reading and traveling, but his greatest pleasure was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife nancy; his children, francie roberts buchanan and husband bernard of lesage, wv, bill roberts and wife tanis of pittsburgh, pa, nonie roberts of mount hope, wv, nancy roberts and husband dan price of hamlin, wv, kathy roberts brown and husband flavius of doylestown, pa; 10 grandchildren, nancy and bernard jr buchanan, jay, karly and dana roberts, jessica, franklin, and michael stone, reed and palmer brown; and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, jim roberts and his wife janet, his brother-in- law, bill palmer and his wife leola, and numerous nieces and nephews

visitation will be held on wednesday, august 30, 2017 at barlow bonsall funeral home from 5-7 pm. A celebration of his life will be held in the chapel of first presbyterian church, charleston, wv, thursday, august 31 at 1:00 pm with rev. Doug jenkins officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
