Obituary

Our beloved herma gail hanshew johnson, 64, passed away from a stroke on monday, august 7, 2017, at st. Mary’s medical center in huntington.

She was the director of regulatory & environmental affairs with the wv department of agriculture for almost 44 years. Herma began her career with the department in 1973 and worked her way up to become director.

Herma was preceded in death by her husband, bob johnson; her parents, leslie m. And dorothy s. Hanshew; three brothers, bud, steve and johnny hanshew; one sister-in-law, gardenia hanshew; and two brothers-in-law, don knight and rob simms. She is survived by her step daughter, amy (stockton) martin and their three children, katie, aaron and sarah; four sisters, polly simms, patty (jack) spade, phyllis (nick) jones, and peggy knight; two brothers, hilbert (juanita) hanshew, donald (linda) hanshew; sister-in-law, tommie hanshew and a large extended family.

A celebration of herma’s life will be held on saturday, august 26, 2017, in the lodge at hawk’s nest state park in ansted. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:30 with a brief service beginning at 11:30.

per herma’s wishes, her body was donated for research with the wv school of osteopathic medicine, lewisburg, wv.
