Hoyt "Pete" Abbott

Passed: January 11, 2024
Charleston, WV

Hoyt Ray “Pete” Abbott, 87, walked into his Father’s open arms on Thursday, January, 11, 2024, after a long hard-fought and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 22, 1936, to the late Volley and Laura Abbott. Also preceding him in death are his brothers, Paul Abbott and Robert Abbott; sisters, Wilda Justice, Madge Roark, and Ruby Mitchell; and great-grandchild, Carter Stricker.

Pete graduated from Elkview High School in 1954 and immediately joined the West Virginia Air National Guard, where he proudly served for 38 years and retired as Senior Master Sergeant in 1991. He loved the outdoors and some of his happiest times were spent with his wonderful family at their camp in Tucker County, especially the week of July 4th.

Pete enjoyed life to the fullest. Whether it was on road trips on his Harley with his wife, fishing on the Cheat River, or taking his grandkids on their first hunting trip, Pete made sure to embrace every moment.

He will be deeply missed by those who loved him the most. Left to cherish his memory is his best friend and devoted wife of 65 years, Margaret Hudson Abbott; daughter, Cindy (Mike) Bauer of Charleston; son, Michael (Ellen) Abbott of Statesville, NC; grandchildren, Hilary (Stewart) Stricker of Elkview, Corey (Whitney) Abbott of Charlotte, NC, Garrin Abbott of Charlotte, NC, Chase (fiancé Crystal Walker) Bauer of Nitro; great-grandchildren, McKinlee Stricker, Weston and Brooks Abbott; and step great-grandchild, Haleigh Walker.

The Abbott family would like to personally thank the Hubbard Hospice House for their unwavering support and care during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to them at 1001 Curtis Price Way, Charleston, WV 25311.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Kanawha Two Mile Gospel Tabernacle, 3190 Edens Fork Road, Charleston, WV 25312, with Pastors David Taylor and John Hensley officiating.

Friends and family may gather one hour prior to the memorial.
