Obituary

It has pleased almighty god, in his wise providence to summon from this earthly existence to himself the soul of irene k. Kostas of columbus, oh formerly of wv and richmond, va.

Irene departed this life on june 19, 2018. By the grace of god, she attained the age of 90 years. Born august 4, 1927 in leros, greece. Irene was one of three children born to john and mary komons. She was baptized into the greek orthodox church as an infant and has been a faithful christian. She graduated from high school in charleston, wv and married james kostas, june 27, 1948, who she shared 64 loving years. Her love of family and friends will always be remembered and cherished.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, james kostas, both sets of parents, and brother, nick komons. She is survived by her daughter, maria gardina and grandson james gardina, daughter demetria (jim) heatwole and granddaughter nikita heatwole, sister chris kastretsios, nephew athanasios and niece helen (peter) ferst, sister-in-law elizabeth kostas and niece karen (michael) dolin.

Funeral service will be 12 noon, monday, june 25, 2018, at st. John’s greek orthodox church, 3512 mccorkle ave. Sw charleston, wv.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
