Obituary

J.T. Moore, jr., a pillar of charleston’s business and philanthropic community, died july 11, 2016 at his home after an extended illness. He was 93.

Mr. Moore founded and was the president and chairman of the moore company, manufacturer of the moore lockerbasket®, industrial change room equipment which he invented. In addition, he was chairman and president of charleston’s ferro products corporation which, with its affiliated businesses, designed, furnished and erected structural steel and architectural building products for commercial and industrial buildings in the mid-atlantic region.

Moore was director emeritus of united bankshares of west virginia and a former chairman of the board of the charleston area medical center. In the course of his long career, he was also a director of an array of banks and corporations.

Apart from his business activities, mr. Moore was chair of the charleston regional chamber of commerce, a director of the charleston renaissance corporation, a member of the rotary club of charleston and a paul harris fellow and a longstanding elder and clerk of session at kanawha united presbyterian church. For nearly thirty years, moore served as a trustee at the hill school, his beloved high school alma mater in pottstown, pennsylvania, where he chaired the finance and investment committees and vice-chairman of the board.

Junius teetzel “j.T.” moore was born october 14, 1922 in charleston, west virginia. He was the son of junius teetzel moore, sr. And helen marshall moore (nã©e pugh). Mr. Moore graduated from the hill school and the university of pennsylvania’s wharton school. From 1942 to 1945, moore served in the army’s 3rd infantry regiment, “the old guard”, and was stationed in england, france and germany. In 1948, he married charleston native, elizabeth “betty” newhall brown, who was his beloved wife for 40 years.

He was a member of the yale club of new york and of edgewood country club, where he served on the board as chairman of the finance committee. Additionally, he was a member of the cosmos club of charleston and the delta kappa epsilon fraternity. He is the last surviving founding member of the seneca club, formed with 7 friends in the early 1930’s who continued to have regular get-togethers for 80 years.

Mr. Moore is predeceased by his wife and his brother, william e. Moore ii. He is survived by his daughters elizabeth “bethe” hagopian (robert) of belmont, massachusetts and helen glaenzer (thomas) of manchester, massachusetts, his son, j. Thomas “tom” moore (maribeth) of haverford, pennsylvania; by his eight grandchildren rob, david and tom hagopian, caroline and emily glaenzer, and justin, kelley and paxton moore; and by three great-grandchildren and his devoted nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on saturday july 16th at 10:00 am at kanawha united presbyterian church, 1009 virginia street east, charleston, wv. Visiting hours will be held friday july 15th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at barlow, bonsall funeral home, 1118 virginia st. E, charleston, wv.

    I Am So Sorry That We Could Not Get To Your Father’S Funeral. But I Am Fighting Parkinson’S Disease And Vann Is Battling Brain Cancer & Stage 4 Lung Cancer.
