Obituary
Jack h. Schwarz, sr., 88, of charleston, passed away peacefully at hubbard hospice house friday, feb. 6, 2015.
He was born april 28, 1926 in grafton, ohio, and grew up in huntington, w.Va., and medina, ohio. Following graduation from medina high school in 1944, he attended the ohio state university, graduating in 1948 with a degree in business. While at ohio state he was a member of beta theta pi fraternity. For the next 67 years he was president of mclain surgical supply, inc., serving the medical community in west virginia and virginia.
Jack was active in village chapel presbyterian church. He was a session member, serving as a deacon and elder, a sunday school teacher, assisted in coordinating sunday church service and was coach of several church league boys basketball teams. He was a master mason, 32nd degree scottish rite mason, shriner and member of beni kedem temple. He was a coach and president of charleston southern little league, and a pta officer for kanawha city elementary school.
He was preceded in death by his parents, ralph and ester henry schwarz, and grandson, todd powell.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, shirley d. Schwarz; sons, dr. Jack h. “jay” schwarz jr. (lorri) of bluefield, va., eric schwarz (denise), todd schwarz (carolyn) and gary schwarz (cheri), all of charleston; and grandchildren, sarah schwarz bratton (trace) of winchester, ky., and emily burdette, heather schwarz, megan schwarz, matthew schwarz, devon schwarz and gary schwarz, all of charleston.
Special thanks to caregivers, karen tolbert and linda welcome, dr. Todd wright and the staff and congregation of village chapel presbyterian church, camc memorial medical and nursing staff and hubbard hospice house.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.M. Saturday, feb. 14, at village chapel presbyterian church, 3818 venable ave. Se, charleston. The family will receive guests one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to village chapel presbyterian church.
