Obituary

James Irvin “Bugs” Hastings, 70, passed away at his home in Charleston, WV, on Sunday, May 12, 2024, after a long illness.

He was born in Cabin Creek, WV, on January 22, 1954, to James Irvin “Junebug” Hastings and Ruth Creasey Hastings.

Bugs was an avid NASCAR fan who rarely missed a televised race. He also enjoyed camping in the mountains of West Virginia while pursuing his other passion, trout fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Robert Lewis (Rusty) and David Ross (Sandy) Hastings.

Bugs is survived by his wife of 44 years, Cynthia; his sons, Derek James Hastings (Deeann) of Marmet, WV, and James Brandon Hastings (Valerie) of South Charleston, WV; brother, John Micheal Hastings (Helen) of Vinton, VA; sister, Lydia “Susie” Wolfe (David) of East Bank, WV; granddaughter, Mia Hastings (Clay) of Culloden, WV, and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Kanawha State Forest, Shelter 4, located near the gift shop.
