Obituary

James L. Morton, Sr., 89, of Mount Holly, NC, went home to be with Jesus on August 23, 2026. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, whose enjoyment was his family. He was a devoted Christian.

He was a long-standing member of 50+ years in IBEW Local Electrical Union #466.  During those years, he was elected for three 3-year terms to the office of Business Manager. The last two terms he ran unopposed.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Patty (Bumpus) Morton; his children, Shelly (Morton) Glass (Gregory L. Glass), Sandy (Morton) (Whitesides) Franklin (Richard Lee Franklin), Jimmy L. Morton, Jr.; grandchildren, Henry “Trey” Whitesides, Matthew James Glass, Hannah P. (Whitesides) Zaladonis, Anna G. Morton, Abigail E. Morton, and Leah P. Morton; brothers, Joe Morton, Kenny Morton, John Morton and brother-in-law Bill Bumpus, and many other beloved family members.

When not at work, Jim loved spending quality time with his family. He enjoyed drives through the country, getting outside and taking walks, and fishing, especially with his grandchildren.  He was a Christian by faith and served at Freedom Baptist Church in Kanawha City, WV.

A Celebration of Life service will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the IBEW Union Hall, 800 Indiana Avenue, Charleston, WV.
