Obituary

James russell robinson, 79, of charleston passed away peacefully on august 11, 2017 at hubbard hospice house, charleston, wv after a courageous, but brief, battle with non-hodgkin’s lymphoma.

He was born january 31, 1938 in buckhannon, wv, the son of the late dewey and thelma robinson.

James, better known as “jim” or “jimmy”, graduated from stonewall jackson high school in 1955, lettering in track and field. Everyone who knew jimmy as a teenager knew that he was a car enthusiast in every respect. He loved to drive fast. Often his friends could find him at the winfield dragstrip with his 55 chevy or other hot rods. Many afternoons and weekends were spent with his dad tinkering with old cars. Throughout the years he and his father purchased, repaired and resold numerous vehicles.

He attended west virginia tech. While living in charleston and lexington, kentucky, he worked at point express and consolidated freight.

He later traveled for mutual of omaha insurance company, based in atlanta, omaha and charleston. Moving to charlotte in 1979 he formed his own company, falcon courier, inc., handling in-bound international freight for u.S. Customs and providing courier services to companies throughout the carolinas.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, and his former wife, brenda bianchi robinson.

In addition to his loving wife, martha; jimmy is survived by his daughter, terri lynn robinson nickerson, of tampa, florida; brother, gerald and wife, priscilla, of pataskala, ohio; nephew, andy robinson (melissa) of reynoldsburg, ohio; two nieces, laura robinson of bryan, ohio, and susan bryson (jeremy) of marion, south carolina; and several great-nieces and great nephews.

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.M. Tuesday, august 22, 2017 at barlow bonsall funeral home with rev. Ravi isaiah officiating. Vocalist will be robert ballard, pastor of worship ministries at bible center church.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family wishes to thank the entire staffs of dr. Michelle endicott and dr. Amy casto for their compassion in managing jimmy’s medical needs throughout the years. A special thanks to the staff of the charleston hubbard hospice house for keeping him so comfortable in his final days.
