Obituary

J. Wilson shuman, ii, 45, of charleston passed away on april 1, 2016, surrounded by his family following a difficult fight with cancer.
Wilson was born on december 8, 1970 in charleston””the first of jane h. Shuman and james w. Shuman’s five sons. He attended groton school, george washington high school and west virginia university.
Wilson was a long time employee of mulligan’s, formerly located at 101 capital street. Many people first met him there, and many also became lifelong friends. Wilson then began a long and successful career as a financial advisor at wells fargo advisors where he worked alongside his father, jim.
Wilson was an avid athlete. Depending on the season, he could be found playing golf, tennis or squash. He was a rare combination of both a fierce and friendly competitor. Among many other things, he served on the board of edgewood country club, he was a member of first presbyterian church and he was the defensive coordinator for the george washington lacrosse team. He was also a vital member of the board of the willy foundation, inc., which he helped create and shape in memory of his late brother willy shuman. Wilson was a tireless advocate of and contributor to the foundation. He found a passion for serving our community as a leader, coach and mentor.
Wilson was a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend. He had an innate gift for raising the spirits of everyone around him. When he had fun, everyone around him had fun. Wilson was also a deeply compassionate man, and, like most compassionate people, it came naturally to him. Wilson would do anything for those close to him. Wilson knew, without fail, when a kind word, a little gift, or a simple joke would help the most.
Wilson loved life and he loved living life, and that spirit touched many lives in turn. He will be sorely and deeply missed. He was truly one-of-a-kind, and his loss at such a young age leaves a void in the lives of his family and friends that can never be filled. Wilson had so much more he wanted to do; he only needed more time.
The light of this world is grayer without wilson to brighten it.
Wilson was preceded in death by his youngest brother, william a. (“willy”) shuman, and his grandparents, mr. And mrs. Grant p. Hall, jr. And mr. And mrs. Chester a. Shuman.
He is survived by his parents, jane h. Shuman and james w. Shuman, his brothers grant p.H. Shuman, jonathan s. Shuman, and edward s. Shuman, his wife elizabeth shuman, and their three sons, nathanial, samuel, and erik shuman.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.M. Thursday, april 7, 2016 at first presbyterian church, charleston, wv with dr. Bill mccoy officiating. Burial will follow in mt. View cemetery, charleston, wv. A celebration of wilson’s life will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the willy foundation, inc., p. O. Box 11544, charleston, wv 25331.

I Did Not Know Mr. Shuman But I Know How Hard It Can Be To Lose A Loved One In Death So I Wanted To Say I Am Very Sorry For Your Loss. The Scripture That Has Given Me Comfort At Times Like This Is The One Found At Revelation 21:4 That Says, “And He Will Wipe Out Every Tear From Their Eyes, And Death Will Be No More, Neither Will Mourning Nor Outcry Nor Pain Be Anymore. The Former Things Have Passed Away.” So God Has Promised That In The Very Near Future We Will Never Have To Experience The Pain Associated With Death Anymore. I Pray That This Gives The Family Some Comfort During This Difficult Time.
