Obituary

Jerry R. Vorholt, 72, of Charleston, WV, passed away on June 18, 2026, at Hubbard Hospice House, after an eight and a half-year  battle with metastatic clear cell renal carcinoma.

Jerry was a devoted, hands-on grandfather whose home was a daily gathering place for his grandsons after school. He was incredibly proud of his boys and loved watching them compete in sports – especially basketball and baseball – and treasured getting to know and support each of their unique interest.

Preceding Jerry in death were his parents, Arnold Vorholt and Mary Vorholt.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kimberly Vorholt, daughters Nikki Jenkins (Ryan) and Cathy Plumley (Matt), grandsons Carson Plumley, Grant Jenkins, and Caleb Plumley, sister Mary Whittington and brother Bill Vorholt, several nieces and nephews. Jerry had a great love for German Shepherds, having shared his home with at least one for 48 years, his current girl is going to miss him dearly, as well as his Golden Retriever.

Jerry was well-known throughout the Kanawha Valley during the early 70s as a stand out basketball player at Sissonville High School under Coach Jerry Moore. He went on to become an outstanding basketball player at West Virginia Institute of Technology 1972 – 1976 under Coach Pete Phillips.

Jerry was a graduate of WV Institute of Technology and a retiree with the Asbestos Workers Local 80 with over 35 years of service. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, both as an employee and employer. He was not only a union member, but Jerry also became a union contractor, employing many of his fellow union members.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Curtis Way, Charleston, WV  25311, as they provided Jerry outstanding care in his final days.

Jerry will be forever missed by his family and close friends. The good times we shared will always be treasured. Our WVU football, Blue Lot gang and the ones we traveled with to the Bowl Games and the WVU Basketball travel games, it was a blast! Our cruise buddies, fun times!

A Gathering of Friends will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home, 1118 Virginia Street East, Charleston, WV.
