Obituary
Joan leatrice bennett overton, 71 of parkersburg, wv went home to her heavenly father on
april 21, 2018 after battling als and breast cancer. Joan was born in beckley, wv “ growing up in oak hill before moving to parkersburg. She attended calvary memorial church in parkersburg, where she actively participated for several years before becoming ill. She was retired from jc penney’s and the parkersburg ymca, where she passionately taught water aerobics for 12 years. Affectionately known as nanu to her grandchildren, joan continued to enjoy her favorite hobbies into retirement as an avid tea connoisseur who had the greenest of thumbs.
She is preceded in death by her father, loraine willis bennett, and mother, hildred letha childs bennett walton. She is survived by her step father, carl c. Walton of oak hill; husband james b. Overton of parkersburg; daughter lea ann overton of toms brook, va; son james m. Overton of parkersburg; grandsons christopher ryan overton of boston, ma; ethan scott coleman of toms brook, va; sister brenda carol bennett brown (jerry) of hurricane, wv where joan lived the last eight months of her life; feline pet, cleo; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and countless friends.
A celebration of life service will be held on june 9, 2018 at 4:00pm at calvary memorial church, 607 wayside farm road, parkersburg, wv. The service will be officiated by rev. Rob collins of christ memorial church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the als association of wv, or the parkersburg, wv ymca.

I Was Greatly Saddened When My Mother, Vella Mae Bradbery Feazell, Phoned To Let Me Know Of Joan’S Passing. I Have Fond Memories Of The Great Times My Mother, Sisters And I Had Working With Joan And Brenda On Byf Activities At Calvary Baptist Church In Oak Hill And Visiting In Each Others’ Homes. Joan Will Always Be Remembered As A Talented, Funny, And Caring Person. My Thoughts And Prayers Are With Joan’S Family During This Difficult Time. May God Bless And Sustain Each Of You.

I Knew Joan From Water Aerobics At The Ymca In Parkersburg, Wv. She Was An Awesome Teacher, Always Kind And Pragmant. I’M So Sorry To Learn Of Your Loss.
